The Exploding Cube
The Exploding Cube is a personal project of mine, that started as a school assignment. As I’ve developed my design skills, I’ve repeatedly returned to the project to take it in new directions.

The project started all the way back in 2014, when I was a freshman in architecture school. I made this sketch as an exercise in isometric drawing. All of the shapes fit together, to form a cube.

I returned to the project in 2018. By then, I had switched majors to Art and Design. After learning to work in After Effects, I wanted to see what The Exploding Cube would look like with motion.

With my new skills in Photoshop and Illustrator, I added characters to interact with the shapes.
After another four years, I resurfaced the project, as the center of my personal brand. I boiled The Exploding Cube down to a flat, logo-fied version.

While the squares tie the brand to my roots in architecture, the RGB red (255, 0, 0) is a nod to graphic design. And the red is paired with a highly saturated, attention-grabbing purple (127, 0, 255).
To compliment the logo’s icon, I used a geometric font that emphasizes right angles.
